AcHoplnt — objectives

The main objective of AcHopInt is to transnationally identify the conditions of the Academic Hospitality Model and establish good practices to develop a common methodology for academic hospitality for international students in higher education institutions. Moreover the sub- objectives of AcHopInt is to:


AcHopInt will present innovative strategies that will enhance the life standard of international students and academic hospitality of higher education institutions. The activities that will be carried out transnationally in the scope of AcHopInt will serve as a contribution to EU’s efforts regarding the development of international education. The issues addressed in AcHopInt have international characteristics in its nature. It deals with international education considering its all aspects therefore it is impossible to carry out such a project in a national level, the present project needs an international perspective.

Achievement of such a project transnationally will give advantage to be aware of cultural diversities and promote international understanding of higher education. Also the intellectual outputs which will be obtained during/after completion of AcHopInt by the contribution to all partners will have international characteristics which will ensure them to be transnationally disseminated and increase sustainability.

Bursa Uludag University

Bursa Uludag University (BUU) is a state University established in 1975. It has been successfully continuing its educational services ever since with its 14 faculties, 1 school, 15 vocational schools, 1 conservatory, 4 institutes, 21 applied research centers and 5 departments under rectorate. The aim of Uludag University is to bring up contemporary students who identify themselves with the cultural and historical values of the country by being respectable to the national values, have a high personal responsibility, and free thought on the contemporary, secular, and democratic way led by reason and science.

In 2018-2019 academic year, there are approximately 6.350 international students from 132 different countries at BUU. Especially, there are many international students coming from Azerbaijan, Syria, Bulgaria and Turkmenistan. BUU is the one of top 5 universities in Turkey about taking international students. There is an International Student Unit to facilitate the registration procedures of international students in BUU. In addition, each year, an informative meeting has hold to the international students in collaboration with Directorate General of Migration Management, Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism and BUU.

BUU Rectorate gives high priority to the admission and education of international students in the university. ULUYOS, which is the selection and placement examination to be taken by the students who will be accepted from abroad who want to study at BUU, have been organized in several countries around the world since 2017.

Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University

Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University is a state university and also one of the leading universities in Ankara. However Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University is a newly established university, it has the advantage of being born from Gazi University which has a long history, goes back to 1920s. Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University with its 9 faculties, 3 colleges, 3 vocational schools, 1 conservatory, 1 institute carried out research and education activities. Its number of academicians is nearly 780 and its number of students is nearly 24.515.

In Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University the number of international students is 819 and our university tries to support the needs of these foreign students.

Mugla Sıtkı Kocman University

MSKU was established in 1992 as a state university with four proposed faculties: the Faculty of Arts & Sciences and Humanities, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the Faculty of Technical Education and the Faculty of Fisheries. Over the past 20 years, the university has grown to include 20 faculties graduate schools, 16 vocational schools, and 47 research and application centers. Since its establishment, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University has been in pursuit of quality higher education and research in order to contribute to the sociocultural, scientific, and technological development of Turkey. Today, the university services over 45,000 students (1220 of them are international students) and employs over 1, 600 full time academic staff.

MSKU highly values internationalization at all levels. All steps are eagerly taken to participate in EU Programs as well as other global partnerships and exchange programs. International Relations Office coordinates EU programs, student/staff mobility, international student recruitment, agreements, international projects and activities, and international promotion of the university. MSKU has been involved in student and staff mobility activities within Erasmus Program, since 2004. Mevlana Exchange Program enables mobility with non-European partners, whereas Farabi Exchange Program serves for national exchange. MSKU is also a very popular university in terms of international student applications and number of international degree students from over 60 different countries has reached 1220 in 2018. Mugla Sıtkı Koçman University was awarded with Diploma Supplement in 2013 and is an active member of European University Association (EUA) and Magna Carta Universitatum.

Uluslararası Murat Hudavendigar Anatolian Imam-Hatip High School

International Murat Hüdavendigar Anatolian Imam Hatip High School is an unique project school where students from 60 different countries are educated in the province of Bursa/Turkey. The school has been established in 2016-2017 academic year within the cooperation of Ministry of National Education and Religious Foundation of Turkey. With a vision of educating idealistic individuals who absorb the sentimental values, think scientifically and add value to the world at an international level.

UMHAIHL has planned and implemented many activities in accordance with the multicultural structure of the school within the framework of the strategic action plans and vision documents of the Ministry. In UMHAIHL where 400 students are educated, 35 teachers and 4 administrators work devotedly to provide quality education to their students.

Stichting Business Development Friesland

Business Development Friesland (BDF) from the Netherlands helps people and organizations to grow. In 2010, Business Development Friesland has set up the incubator in the city of Leeuwarden (Inqubator Leeuwarden) with support of the Province of Fryslân, municipality of Leeuwarden, two universities of applied sciences and two vocational institutes. This is a place for (student) start-ups to develop their own business. BDF involved in the most important education and business programs in the region.

Besides a strong regional network of VET schools (Friesland College, Nordwin College, Friese Poort College, Noorderpoort College), Higher Educational Institutes (NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences and Hanzehogeschool) and business support organizations (Ynbusiness, Innovatiepact Fryslân, Entrepreneur Mentoring Service), that BDF frequently works with, BDF has a large European network. In 2015, BDF became official member of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN). EEN is the largest network of contact points in the EU with information and advice for European Entrepreneurs and Universities about Entrepreneurship and EU-related topics Network and Internationalization.

The number of international students in Higher Educational Institutes (HE) has been increasing in the last 10 years. Whereas in 2010 the number of international HE students in the Netherlands was not even 49,000 (which represented 7.4% of the total number of HE students), the number in 2017 was almost 77,000 (10.5% of the total number of HE students).

Letterkenny Institute of Technology

LYIT is a lively and inspirational education hub that attracts a creative mix of 300 staff and 4000 students from 31 different countries. With modern integrated campuses in Letterkenny and Killybegs, the college has an ambitious and progressive ethos, and has expanded the course curriculum to offer over 100 Educational programs across its 4 Schools of Business, Tourism, Engineering and Science, many up to Masters/PhD Level. All programs are designed to combine academic theory with practical skills in order to prepare students for the world of work and lifelong learning.

LYIT's student body consists of 30% mature learners, this includes students who entered the college directly onto Access Courses, IT Support and Springboard courses. Over 67% of students come from low income families.

Universidad De Leon

Universidad de León (ULE) is a young and active public HEI which has had an interest in international education since its beginnings in 1979. Its two campuses serve a yearly average of 13.000 students with a varied range of degrees. In total, ULE offers 38 undergraduate degrees, 30 graduate degrees, and 14 Ph.D. programs. All these are provided by 13 Faculties, 26 departments, and 125 research groups. Among the wide range of degrees offered by the University are undergraduate degrees in Business Management; International Trade; Economy; Finance; Marketing and Market Research; Tourism; and a double degree in Law and Economics. These offered degrees are provided by the Faculty of Economics, which also offers official and own postgraduate degrees such as Masters in Business Studies and Ph.D. studies in Business Economics. ULE is also supported by 10 institutes, 1 technological, and 6 extraordinary chairs.

ULE counts with an International Relation Office and an International Project Office. Both offices have a large experience in the management of mobility of academics, staff and students, and in the coordination and management of international cooperation projects. ULE has also a large experience as a partner in several key networks that boost the internationalization process of the university and also of the entire community. ULE is also enrolled in international exchange programs since 1987 and promotes both incoming and outgoing mobility on a yearly basis of approximately 440 students to EU destinations, and 120 students to non-EU academic institutions.

Kauno Technologijos Universitetas

Founded in 1922, Kaunas University of technology (KTU) is a leading Lithuanian university providing comprehensive research-based studies at international level and closely cooperating with business. KTU is ranked among the top 2,7 % of world universities (QS World University rankings 2016/2017) and Lithuania’s no. 1 technical university (Reitingai, 2018).

9818 students, of whom 7311 undergraduate students, 2190 master students and 317 PhD candidates, are currently studying at KTU. 894, or nearly 10 per cent, are international students who studies at KTU full-time or are exchange students. 1000 members of academic staff, fulfilling 1 to 10 professor to student ratio, ensure high quality and tailored study experience in such fields as electrical, electronics, mechanical engineering, architecture, life sciences, economics and business, arts and humanities, or social sciences. Another nearly 1100 employees are administrative staff in the areas related to organizational development, HR management, finances, science commercialization, communication and marketing, international relations, among others.
